Barack Obama, fresh off his campaign announcement in Springfield, Il. was in Ames this weekend. He pretty much filled the 2/3 of Hilton Colosseum that was given for the event. I and a number of people went to see the water walking demonstration and to see if he really could cure lepers. Unfortunately there were no such demonstrations but we did get to hear long (and in the case of the President of the ISU Democrats, embarrassing) introductions before the main act.

Eventually Senator Obama made his way onto the stage and gave his speech. Despite being the same rhetoric that we’ve been hearing for a while (I don’t expect anyone’s talking points to be changing before say….. November, so hang tight) he really is as charismatic as he appears on TV.

In the end I give it a 8 for lack of new material and no water walking, but you can’t get everything; despite this I think Obama comes pretty close to everything that most people want out of politics.

This weekend KURE put on an 80s Dance party in the M-Shop. Ian and Mike got really pumped about it and went out to the Salvation Army to find some good outfits. Rachel and I didn’t decide to go till the last minute but pulled respectable costumes together ourselves. I got a pair of very VERY large cheap reading glasses and popped the lenses out of them to complete my 80s nerd costume and we couldn’t find legwarmers for Rachel so she went with knee high socks instead, everything else was taken from things we already own. I’ve posted some pictures, unfortunately I don’t have any of Mike. Also unfortunately you can’t see Rachel’s sideway ponytail in any of these either. None the less you can still see my fantastic 80s nerd outfit and Ian’s scary…. something… maybe a David Bowie fan?

Wario Ware is…. amazing  I can’t describe how amazing it is.  It is so much fun.. I’m not sure how they make a game that turns getting a dead pen to write or putting dentures in an old woman’s mouth fun but they did.  Here is a video that I feel really exemplifies  how insane it is.

tedger@bolero:~$ uptime 13:59:42 up 101 days, 3:42, 4 users, load average: 0.01, 0.14, 0.34

To most people the above lines will mean…. pretty much nothing. But to me they’re pretty exiting. The main part I’m interested in are the first 2 sets of numbers “13:59:42 up 101 days.” This means that my computer has been up for over 100 days!!! w00t! Not that amazing but still kind of exiting. Plus I know for a fact that the last two times I’ve restarted it, it was due to me accidentally hitting the power button. Hooray for not using Windows!
