Barack Obama, fresh off his campaign announcement in Springfield, Il. was in Ames this weekend. He pretty much filled the 2/3 of Hilton Colosseum that was given for the event. I and a number of people went to see the water walking demonstration and to see if he really could cure lepers. Unfortunately there were no such demonstrations but we did get to hear long (and in the case of the President of the ISU Democrats, embarrassing) introductions before the main act.
Eventually Senator Obama made his way onto the stage and gave his speech. Despite being the same rhetoric that we’ve been hearing for a while (I don’t expect anyone’s talking points to be changing before say….. November, so hang tight) he really is as charismatic as he appears on TV.
In the end I give it a 8 for lack of new material and no water walking, but you can’t get everything; despite this I think Obama comes pretty close to everything that most people want out of politics.
