Well the icy grasp of winter appears to released it’s hold on Ames and the grass is green again. Guys are back in shorts and girls are back in shirts probably inappropriate for classes. VEISHEA isn’t far off and I’m looking forward to the parade and the possibility of finally getting a Cherry Pie. Nope never had one, one of my earliest memories might be a VEISHEA parade but I’ve never had a VEISHEA cherry pie.

Spring also means that the Government of the Student body elections have come and gone. With only one executive slate on the ballot the Phillips-Guffy campaign won in probably the lowest turnout I’ve seen at ISU. I’m happy with this however because it means that there will be less of a Greek stranglehold on GSB next year. Rachel was elected for another term as GSB Senator even though she wont be present for her full term of office and my friend Nate Willis was elected to his first full term (he was recently placed on the Senate in order to fill a vacancy).

Ian was asked by now President Elect Phillips to serve on his cabinet, my connections to GSB only seem to grow. Then the other day I have a brief conversation with Mike, one of my roommates with no connection to GSB at all. Apparently Rob, the assistant director of KURE is a friend of Brian (Phillips) and is trying to help fill seats for him. Rob asked Mike if I might be interested and I of course said yes.

I’m now discussing the possibility of serving as GSB’s Director of IT with Brian and right now it sounds like I’ll most likely be sitting on the GSB cabinet next year. The funny thing being that I heard about it in probably the most unlikely of ways.

Spring has sprung and it’s in full swing.

My roommate Ian and I are searching for apartments. We’ve decided we’ve had enough of university housing and we really need something new. This is good and I’m very exitied about finding an apartment but there is one downside. ISU has the best internet access in town and is perfect for hosting a website off of a personal box, this is going to come to an end.

Since I wont be able to utilize the fantastic bandwidth of the university anymore I have moved my website to a hosting service. NearlyFreeSpeech.Net is a nice, inexpensive service that provides the features I need for my website. As you downloaded this page to read it it was actually coming from the Nearly Free Speech webservers not my own personal one. What affect does this have on you? Hopefully it means a little bit of a speed increase for you and some ease of mind for me.

KQ KQ KQ. What can I say. It was amazing. From 8AM Friday to about 12AM Sunday I had about 5 hours of sleep. I ate a PB&J sandwich, Cheesits, a banana, 3 pieces of Pizza Pit pizza, a few chips, an orange, and a Subway sub, in that entire time. Funny thing… until right before I went to sleep I wasn’t tired, and until the next morning I wasn’t hungry. Amazing what 26 hours of crazyness will do to your need for sleep and food.

Harwood this year reigned victorious. Around the 5th hour (9PM Friday) Harwood was in 3rd place behind what we knew were 2 teams that wouldn’t be putting up a fight. From that point on every time they read a score Harwood was on top. Not only were we on top, we had a 300 point lead for pretty much the entire competition which ballooned to a 650 point lead by the end of the day. With the largest margin in recent history harwood took home the “Fat Pack” prize. It included 3 cases of Sobe Energy Drink, a case of Frito-Lays individually wrapped chips, 5 large boxes of Oreos, a case of “Honey Rolls” (a cheap vending machine cinnamonless cinnamon roll), 14 pounds of pudding (half vanilla, half chocolate), $50 in gift certificates to People’s for food (no drinks), $100 in gift certificates from Pizza Pit, an ISU license plate frame, and a 1st place trophy with a guy in pajamas (karate gee) on it.

Annother fantastic year for KQ. I can’t wait for next year!
